Retaining Walls Built to Hold, Not to Lean

A retaining wall is a structural element holding tons of saturated soil. We build with proper base depth, drainage stone, and geogrid where it's needed — the parts you never see are the parts that matter.

Retaining wall work starts with a review of height, grade, access, soil, drainage and any engineering requirements. Request a site visit for a property-specific written quote.

How we can help

  • Compacted base and buried course, not blocks on dirt
  • Drainage stone and drain tile behind every wall
  • Geogrid reinforcement on taller and loaded walls
  • Segmental block, natural stone, and boulder options

Scope to discuss

  • Excavation and compacted aggregate base
  • Buried first course for structural stability
  • Free-draining backfill with drain tile outlet
  • Cap course and finished grading

Outside this scope

  • Structural engineering stamps for walls over 4 ft (we coordinate, billed at cost)
  • Permit fees
  • Fence or railing installation on top of the wall

Common questions

How much does a retaining wall cost in Cincinnati?

Retaining wall scope depends on height, materials, access, soil, drainage and any engineering requirements. Request a site visit so we can assess your property and prepare a written quote.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?

Most local jurisdictions require a permit and engineered drawings once a wall exceeds four feet from the bottom of the footing. Under that, it usually depends on the municipality. We confirm requirements for your address during the site visit.

Why do retaining walls fail?

Almost always drainage or base. Water builds hydrostatic pressure behind a wall that has no drainage stone or outlet, and the wall bows outward. That's why we never skip the stone, the fabric, or the drain tile.

Can you repair an existing leaning wall?

Sometimes. If the base is intact and the issue is drainage, a rebuild of the upper courses with proper backfill can work. If the base has failed, a full rebuild is the only honest fix and we'll say so.
